Education

Matilda began studying the piano at the age of ten with Mariagrazia Petrali at the “Antonia Pozzi” Civic Music School in Corsico, near Milan.

Her musical sensitivity was evident from an early age. She went on to receive awards at numerous national and international competitions, as well as four scholarships presented to the school’s most outstanding students in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Her principal awards include the “Guido Monaco” Competition in Prato in 2009, the “Bruno Bettinelli” International Competition in Treviglio in 2011, the “Vittoria Caffa Righetti” International Music Competition in Cortemilia in 2017, the “Piove di Sacco” Competition in 2018, the “Humberto Quagliata” Competition in San Giovanni Valdarno in 2019 and the “Riviera Etrusca” Competition in Piombino in 2022. In 2019, she also won first prize at both the “Città di Massa” Competition and the “Antonia Pozzi” Competition in Corsico.

During her fourth year of high school, Matilda spent a year in the United States through the Intercultura exchange programme. In St. Louis, Missouri, she received a scholarship to attend Webster University’s Community Music School, continuing her piano and chamber-music studies with Nina Ferrigno.

After graduating from Milan’s “Cesare Beccaria” classical high school in July 2016, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in piano with highest honours at the “Giuseppe Nicolini” Conservatoire in Piacenza, studying with Mariagrazia Petrali. An Erasmus year at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp in Belgium grew into a longer period of study, culminating in a two-year Master’s degree in piano with Sergei Edelmann.

After returning to Italy, she completed a second Master’s degree in piano at the “Giuseppe Nicolini” Conservatoire in Piacenza in 2023, again graduating with highest honours. In 2025, she completed the postgraduate piano programme “Play&Rec” at the “Francesco Venezze” Conservatoire in Rovigo, specialising in the Italian piano repertoire under Roberto Prosseda and Federico Nicoletta.

She has continued to develop her artistry through masterclasses and advanced courses with Mariagrazia Petrali, Andrea Turini, Humberto Quagliata, Alessandro Comellato, Roberto Cappello, Nelson Delle-Vigne Fabbri, Boaz Sharon, Ingrid Fliter, Eliane Rodrigues, Korneel Bernolet, Massimiliano Damerini, Anna Kravtchenko, Maurizio Baglini, Klára Würtz, Inna Faliks, Jed Distler, Roberto Prosseda, Federico Nicoletta and Boris Berman.

Concert activity

Matilda has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in concert series throughout Italy and abroad. In Milan, she has played at the Sforza Castle for the Carlo Monzino Foundation as part of the “Mani Sapienti” series, at the Palazzina Liberty and at Teatro Buratto. She has also taken part in Piano City Milano on several occasions, performing at GAM – the Gallery of Modern Art, Palazzo Litta, the Assab One gallery, the Garden of the Righteous and Cascina Campazzo. In Corsico, she has given numerous concerts at the Auditorium delle Libere Stelle and Teatro San Luigi for the Musica&Muse association.

In Piacenza, she has performed at the “Giuseppe Nicolini” Conservatoire as part of the Piacenza Musica Festival, at the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art and for the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation. She has also played at Spazio Dante in Parma, the Auditorium of Palazzo Galletti in Monte San Savino, in San Giovanni Valdarno and Radda in Chianti as part of the Valdarno Piano Festival, in San Felice del Benaco for the Musica&Muse association, in Asolo for Musikdrama, and at the Pieve della Formigola in Corticelle di Dello for the “La Pieve in Musica” series.

Her international engagements include performances in Belgium at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and the CoStA cultural centre, as well as appearances in Hasselt with the Klaviermeester Orchestra. In the Netherlands, she appeared in Ootmarsum as part of Pianofestival Twente. In Spain, she performed for Fundación Eutherpe in León, both in recital at Sala Eutherpe and as soloist with the Joven Orquestra Leonesa at the Auditorium Ciudad de León, where she played Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor.

Research

To mark the 150th anniversary of Guido Alberto Fano’s birth in 2025, Matilda developed a research, recording and public-engagement project devoted entirely to his piano music. At the heart of the project are two unpublished scores, Corale Variato and Tema con variazioni. The work has also led to a collaboration with Vitale Fano, the composer’s grandson and curator of the Guido Alberto Fano Music Archive.

The project has inspired a series of recitals devoted to Italian piano music and Fano’s works, presented at the Rovigo Piano Festival, held at the “Francesco Venezze” Conservatoire in Rovigo; at PianoLab in Ceglie Messapica; for the Piano Italiano series in Cisterna di Latina; at Giovani all’Ateneo at the Ateneo Veneto in Venice; and at the Salotto Musicale of Palazzo Sambonifacio in Padua. In March 2025, she was selected to take part in the workshop 20th-Century Italian Piano Music, organised by the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice.

In November 2025, she was selected by the “Antonio Vivaldi” Conservatoire in Alessandria for admission to the PhD programme in “Practices and Repertoires of Italian Music” (41st cycle), specialising in historically informed performance practice. As a scholarship recipient at the “Franco Vittadini” Conservatoire in Pavia, she is researching Guido Alberto Fano’s unpublished piano manuscripts and the performer’s role in shaping their first interpretations through philological enquiry and performance practice.
